The Adventure Club at James Sales Elementary in Parkland, Washington, is an exciting program led by Physical Education teacher Colin Horak.

Held once a month, this club offers students and their caregivers the chance to explore various destinations throughout Western Washington. From forest trails and mountain viewpoints to coastal parks and historic sites, each outing is carefully planned to expose students to the beauty and diversity of the region.

The Adventure Club is more than just a field trip—it’s a unique opportunity for students to experience learning beyond the classroom. By venturing outside the Parkland community, participants gain a broader perspective of the natural world and local culture. These trips also promote physical activity, family bonding, and a lifelong love of the outdoors.

Under Mr. Horak’s guidance, the program fosters curiosity, confidence, and teamwork. Students are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones, try new activities, and build connections with peers and adults. The presence of caregivers enhances the experience, creating shared memories and reinforcing the importance of community support. The Adventure Club is a powerful way to enrich education, build relationships, and connect students to the world beyond their neighborhood.
